The law of stability (208 of 28 December 2015) provides that from 2016 the subscription fee for television for private use (abbr. Canone Rai) is collected by the Revenue Agency through the electricity bill.
Since, in the bill there is an additional expense item which indicates the amount and the period to which the Rai Fee refers, which helps to form the total amount to be paid.
The amount of the Rai Fee is equal to 90 euros per year charged in 10 monthly installments from January to October.
The Mediobanca Research Department has recently published the Report Media&Entertainment, the survey on the main Italian television operators and comparison with the major international private and European public peers.
In the study regarding the Canone Rai, it is read:
“Italy has the lowest rent among the major European countries, even lower than the European average (€ 0.25 per day per subscriber against a European average of € 0.33). German public TV is much more expensive for taxpayers (€ 0.58 per day), the British one (€0,50) and the French (€0,38). From 2015 al 2019, among the major European countries, only Italy has reduced the per capita rent; Great Britain increased it by 8.2% and France by 2,2%, the German one is stable. In 2019 € 74.3 of € 90.0 (l’83%) paid annually by each subscriber, they were collected by Rai, a share below the European average (89,1%)”.
The study analyzes the sector worldwide and in Italy, before and during the crisis. It also extends the survey for the first time to the major global private players in the sector. It also includes a focus on streaming broadcasting and a comparison between the major European public television groups. It is provided, infine, an in-depth study of the most recent and prospective dynamics of the sector at a global and national level.
