If we hung Article 1882 of the Civil Code insofar as it relates to insurance claims we see that:
"Insurance is a contract under which the insurer is obliged to retaliate the insured for the damage to it from an accident"
This definition is valid for all types of life insurance:
- Property insurance
- Insurance of persons
- Liability insurance
In all three cases the life insurance is characterized by its function as compensatory: there is an accident and damage to be compensated.
