“Restart from business and political responsibility“
The appointment of Carlo Bonomi as new President of Confindustria, number one of Assolombarda, it came at a very delicate moment for the Italian economy.
Among his first statements, the one according to which to get the country going again immediately stands out, crossed by the medical and economic cyclone Coronavirus, one can only start from the companies.
Historically our country, without natural resources, it has always been a low growth country with the exception of two moments: the Giolittian era and the years of the so-called "economic boom".
Here are two testimonials with different points of view:
Pierluigi Ciocca (former deputy general manager of Bankitalia) nel suo libro Return to growth tells of how on those occasions businesses, they responded dynamically to the stresses by increasing their productivity deriving from several parts: more contestable markets, opening to world markets, public expenditure under control, new and incisive infrastructures (think of the highway of the sun) and above all to the simple and clear economy (1882 Commercial code - 1942 Civil Code, applied with speed and common sense by the Public Administration and the Judiciary)
Piero Bassetti, business owner, a past in politics and first president of the Lombardy Region has described on several occasions (with books, interviews, etc..) the post-war economic miracle. Here is a quotation from him in Giuseppe Turani's article on Men and Business “look, we Christian Democrats weren't so good. They only understood one thing: that Italy had to leave long bridle. The Italians did the miracle, little new.”
However you think the truth is always a bit’ halfway and then, with healthy optimism, it can be concluded that companies will be able to revive the Italian economy, while politics must be able to set the correct contextual conditions.
