
“This Report presents a static picture of the financial knowledge and investment choices of Italian families, as evidenced by external sources, from data taken from the supervisory activity and from a survey conducted by our Observatory on a sample of 2.700 respondents.”
Thus begins the speech of the Consob Chairman Paolo Savona at the presentation of the VII edition of Report on the investment choices of Italian families.
The Report provides evidence on financial knowledge, investment attitudes and choices of Italian financial decision makers, also in order to capture any attention profiles that may derive from it for investor protection.
Here are some highlights:
- In 2021 the savings rate remains at levels above pre-crisis levels with a strong preference for liquidity (in June 2021 is equal to 32% of total financial assets);
- The most popular activities remain certificates of deposit and postal savings bonds (owned by 43% of families), followed by Italian government bonds (25%) and come on mutual funds (24%);
- Financial knowledge basic are still not widespread but they continue to slowly grow.
The Italy of Savings
Data also confirmed by the latest analysis of the most representative banking union in Italy, the FABI – Italian Autonomous Banking Federation: “Current accounts, actions, bot and btp, policies: in almost household piggy banks 5.000 billion €. In two years, the Italians have accumulated 16 billions a month more“.
