“Films are functional in making people understand a phenomenon - explains Raffaele De Leonardis – and I selected them based on the topic I decided to cover. Studying their plots in depth, I was able to introduce and explain concepts related to the real economy in an attractive way. “Matrix” allowed me to talk about the new economy and the way in which the internet has revolutionized the world economy. Similar discussion – continues the author – for “Oliver Twist” which, connected to the letter “E” of energy, it allowed me to explain the transformations of society and the economy following the Industrial Revolution in nineteenth-century London”.
The manual also intends to encourage the reader to look at the future of the economy, personal and global, with optimism, that is, sharing the same spirit as De Leonardis. “The myth of the permanent job is part of our mindset, and it is the same attitude of those who want to invest safely, which however does not bring actual wealth. The classic safe investment is that in government bonds, which however falls on the community. We must have the courage to invest in companies that in turn invest in innovative projects, in particular related to environmental sustainability, that will truly revolutionize, in a positive way, the quality of our lives.”
A revolution that, according to the author of the book it could and should already be applied in schools, starting from the first classes, with the teaching of fundamental notions of economics, such as saving or investing. “At a time when knowledge of the structure and mechanisms of the economic system appears to be in crisis, especially among young people (who should benefit more from it to build their future), instead, learning must be stimulated. There is a need for knowledge, familiar with financial and business culture, ability for correct personal and professional planning”.
