It was recently presented in Rome Housing Report 2024made by Nomisma with the support ofCRIF as part of an event organized in collaboration with Confindustria, in the Viale dell'Astronomia headquarters in Rome.
The Report on Living 2024, now in its 17th edition, reflects the desire of Italian families to improve their living comfort despite having to deal with the limits imposed by the economic situation.
These are the main findings reported on Rapporto:
Increase in sustainable purchasing demand
980 thousand Italian families have the desire to buy a house despite the difficulty in accessing credit and the pressure on family budgets.
Rent as a necessary choice
The percentage of Italian families forced to rent is rising (59% in 2024 against 56% of 2023).
Resumption of mortgage-assisted sales
There appears to be a slight recovery in mortgage-backed transactions. It is the start of a possible trend reversal?
“For a growing number of Italians, purchasing a home risks proving to be a difficult dream to realize because, although in recent years awareness of the need to improve one's living comfort has increased, families find themselves having to deal with their financial capabilities. The decline in interest in purchasing seems to mainly concern the most fragile component of families from an economic and income point of view. In this picture, for many, renting becomes the only viable option, waiting for the conditions of access to credit to allow us to re-propose the ownership ambition which has now been forcibly set aside” – he declared Luca Dondi of Nomisma.
