The Italian government has put it on track Italia Cashless, the plan that rewards those who do not use cash in purchases: Indeed, who uses credit card, ATM and app will have reimbursed part of the expense made.

From 1 January 2021 you can get a refund of the 10% on the amount of purchases made with cards or payment apps in stores, bars and restaurants, supermarkets and large retailers or for artisans and professionals

But already this month (from 8 to 31 December) theExtra Cashback for Christmas: are enough 10 purchases with credit cards, debit cards, prepaid and payment apps to get the 10% refund, up to a maximum of 150 €, which will be credited to the account in the first months of 2021.

In response to the above plan the European Central Bank he wrote a letter to Minister Gualtieri it states Yves Mersch - Former Member of the ECB Executive Committee - in which he warns the Italian Government about the possibility that the Cashless plan could have negative effects on the use of cash, compromising the obligation of a neutral approach towards the various means of payment available.

It was not long in coming reply from the Italian Minister of Finance who replied:

The missive on cashback sent by the former member of the executive committee of the ECB, daughter Yves Mersch, it arouses neither concern nor second thoughts with respect to the Government initiative. Indeed, Mersch's arguments have a purely formal character (about the advisability of consulting the ECB on the measure) and are by their nature non-binding“, Sources of the Mef said.
